The Snow Sports Area:
The Hakuba valley is located deep within the Japanese Alps inside the Nagano Prefecture. The valley incorporates 10 ski resorts, over 200 runs, 139 lifts, huge towering peaks, a local village, ski /snowboard shops, a combination of traditional and Western dining and apres ski entertainment. This area the heart and soul of snow sports in Japan and played host to many events during the 1998 winter Olympics including downhill skiing, ski jumping and the super G. This region also has amazing sightseeing opportunities, so awesome for just sightseeing or for a few days off from the slopes.
 
Lift Tickets:
Approximately $45. per day (2014 rates) and can be purchased at your hotel (in cash) or at the ticket window. You will save approximately 10% off the ticket window price if you buy them through the guides at the hotel. Lift tickets can normally be purchased for Happo-One & Hakuba-47. Other area lift tickets must be purchased at the resort, or you can purchase an "All Mountain" lift pass that is valid for 2 or 3 days (non-consecutive) and is valid for all 6 ski/snowboard areas. These are approximately $47.00 p.d.
 
Optional Day Trips Include:
CLUB TRIP Jigokudani Wild Monkey hot springs and Masuichi-Ichimura Sake Brewery and Zenkoji Temple Tour
The world famous Jigokudani wild monkey hot-springs is home to about 200 wild monkeys who spend their days soaking in the natural hot springs, keeping warm from the harsh winter. The park was opened in 1964 and is considered to be the only places in the world to see snow monkeys bathing in the wild. The hike to the hot-springs takes about 20 to 30 minutes each way.
Departing from the Kambayashi Onsen we make our way to the historic town of Obuse, home to the famous Japanese artist Hokusai and the museum dedicated to his works. Enjoy a traditionally cooked superb Japanese set menu lunch (various options available) at the Zenkoji Templee Masuichi Club Restaurant, which is an open style country restaurant and see the beautifully preserved 240 year old Masuichi Sake Brewery and Hokusai Museum where you can enjoy many different types of Japanese Sake.
Our next stop is Nagano City home to Zenkoji Temple designated a national treasure and has a history of over 1400 years. It is one of Japan's most revered temples and house the first image of Buddha brought to Japan in the 7th century. The streets surrounding the temple are lined with lantern lit shops and tierd roofed stalls, souvenir shops, restaurants and galleries.
Our tour departs at 8.00am and arrives back at our Hotel at 5.30pm. The cost is $95 payable on your club account and includes entry into the Jigokudani wild monkey hot-springs, lunch & Zenkoji Temple costs.
 
Nagano City Zenkoji Temple Tour & Nakamura Farm House:
Nagano City was the city, which hosted the 1998 Winter Olympic Games and is also well known for its celebrated temples. Zenkoji Temple designated a national treasure has a history of over 1400 years and is a must see place. It is one of Japan's most revered temples and houses the first image of Buddha brought to Japan in the 7th century. The streets surrounding the temple are lined with lantern lit shops and teared roofed stalls and galleries. Traveling down to Nagano we stop off at the Nakamura Farm House built in 1698, which is the oldest folk house existing in the Nagano Prefecture. The house now classified as an important cultural property of Japan provides guests with a vivid insight into traditional farm living. After the tour of Zenkoji Temple we will have time to stroll around exploring the city at our own pace. The tour begins at 09:00am and returns around 4.30pm: Approx. Cost: $85. p.p.
 
Matsumoto Castle and Japan Folklore Museum Tour:
This is a full-day tour to Matsumoto City, home of the famous Matsumoto Castle. In Japan there are only four castles that have been designated as "National Treasures" and Matsumoto Castle is one of these. The five-storied donjon is one of the oldest castle structures extant in Japan. Construction of the main donjon began in 1592 when warlords around the country struggled for dominance. Matsumoto Castle is one of the few great castles of the feudal era to survive in its original form. After visiting the castle we move onto the Japan Folklore Museum for an insight into the history of Japan from the medieval to pre-modern periods. Before departing Matsumoto, we at our own leisure can explore the many other historical sites around the city. Numerous stores and galleries sell fine traditional crafts and local foods of the Shinshu area. Bring comfortable walking shoes for this tour. (Lunch is not included) The tour departs at 09:00am and returns around 5.30pm: Approx. Cost: $90. p.p.
 
Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park And M-Wave:
Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park is situated nearby Kambayashi Onsen at the base of Shiga Kogen. This unique area is home to about 200 wild monkeys who spend their days soaking in the natural hot springs, keeping warm from the harsh winter. The park was opened in 1964 and is considered to be the only place in the world to see snow monkeys bathing in the wild. The hike to the Monkey Park takes approx. 20-30 minutes each way. Departing from Kambayashi Onsen guests stop for lunch, followed by a visit to the M-Wave Stadium. The building is an architectural achievement that was constructed for the recent Nagano Olympics. The stadium hosted the Olympic Speed Skating events and also houses the Nagano Olympic Museum. we will enjoy a guided tour of the museum and view a short 3D movie on the staging of the Olympics. Tour cost includes entry into the monkey park and to the Olympic Museum. This is a full day tour departing at 9.00am and arriving back in Hakuba at 5.30pm: Approx. Cost: $105. p.p.
 
Baggage Information:
Currently, JAL (deluxe trip) offers 2 checked bags free of charge. If you are bringing ski/snowboard equipment, you are allowed to bring a ski/snowboard bag and a boot bag, in lieu of a 2nd checked bag. There are currently no fees for bringing a ski/snowboard and boot bag. All charges are per way. One carry on item and one personal item are also allowed at no additional cost providing they fit under the seat or in the overhead bins. Baggage policies are subject to change at the carrier’s discretion.
